“BAŁUTY_BAŁUTY”
Lodz Fotofestiwal 2010
Baluty-Baluty is a particular documentary project which focuses on the family-life, relationships and love in six families living in Stary Baluty in Lodz.
Baluty is an old district in Lodz, became Jewish quarter and turned into a notorious getto in WW II.  ‘Litzmannstadt getto’ was Europe’s second largest ghetto exeeded only by that of Warsaw.
Nowadays Baluty is a partly impoverished quarter of Lodz.
Six Baluty families in this district were photographing their everyday family life in all kind of situations focusing on love, relationships and family events in particular.
The project is completed by portaits of the families and family members made by the Dutch photographer Rob Houkes.
Furthermore there are video-portraits and interviews, old snapshots are be seen and more.
The Baluty-Baluty exhibition gives a surprisingly sensitive, touching and intimate inside view of Baluty family-life.
Baluty-Baluty is made in the two months before the start of the Photofestiwal Lodz.
It’s organized and driven by the Dutch photographer Rob Houkes in cooperation with Agnieszka Pomorska-Struszczyk, Malgorzata Martynelis, Maciek Jacóbczyk, Monika Krzesiak, Ula Tarasiewisz and six Baluty-families.
Baluty Baluty is a low-budget project  in which is mobilized all the creativity, talents, perception and life-experience from families-members and Lodz co-workers.
‘Baluty-Baluty’ makes the connection with this years theme of ‘Lodz Fotofestiwal’  2010 (All my Lovin’) and the city of Lodz.
